Stay Alert for Safety, Build a Solid Defense Network —— Special Training on Laboratory Safety Held by the College of Food and Pharmacy

To uphold the principle of safety first and ensure a safe and hygienic laboratory environment, the College of Food and Pharmacy held a laboratory safety training session in Meeting Room 6-304 on April 3. All faculty members attended the event, which aimed to raise safety awareness, standardize operating procedures and prevent potential risks at the source.

Centering on hazard prevention, the training clarified the regulations for laboratory safety management. Eating, drinking and smoking are strictly prohibited in laboratories. Chemicals shall be stored by category, and strong oxidants must be kept completely separate from organic substances. All operations involving toxic and hazardous materials should be conducted inside fume hoods, and no experiment shall be left unattended. All staff and students are required to wear lab coats, safety goggles and gloves properly, and be familiar with the locations of fire extinguishers and emergency showers.

Focusing on three key prevention and control priorities, the meeting stressed that precursor chemicals and explosive hazardous chemicals must be collected on demand with quantity registration, and course instructors shall take primary responsibility. Equipment such as centrifuges and alcohol lamps can only be used under teachers' supervision. Students are not allowed to operate autoclaves, and the use of large-scale instruments must be recorded for filing. Newly posted chemical waste compatibility charts and sorting guidelines have been placed in each laboratory to standardize waste collection procedures.

Following the training, Wu Youzhi, Vice President of the university and Dean of the College of Food and Pharmacy, together with Wang Yuan, Vice Dean for Teaching, Niu Wei, Director of the Training Center and other staff, held a special work meeting. Emphasizing that safety responsibility weighs heavier than Mount Tai, they required full implementation of daily safety rules, regular hidden danger inspections, and consolidated safety responsibilities at all levels to further improve laboratory safety management.

Combining real cases and official regulations, this training popularized safety knowledge and clarified operational standards, laying a solid foundation for the safe and orderly delivery of experimental teaching in the college.
